Aim Higher with STEM
STEM is known for being an area where the brightest minds achieve innovative and cutting edge things — and our STEM programs are no exception. Sylvan EDGE will give kids the chance to get hands-on experience with things like designing their own video games and programming real robots to enter into friendly competition with classmates. You can relax knowing your child is building solid friendships and learning skills relevant for the 21st century along the way!
In West Virginia, Sylvan EDGE Programs Include:
- Engineering: One idea at a time, engineers have the power to change the world. Giving kids positive experiences with engineering when they’re young will help motivate them to put their inspiration to good use later. Kids engage in fun, hands-on activities like building small machines and designing intricate bridges. Experimenting with essential STEM concepts never gets old with creative themes that change from session to session.
- Coding: By teaching kids to create characters, sounds, special effects and animations using kid-friendly Tynker™ technology, our coding program helps them develop important problem-solving, logic and computational skills. Your child will gain the ability to create mini-stories and turn them into video games he or she can play with friends. You’ll also receive a link that will allow you to follow and share your child’s weekly progress.
- Robotics: During each session, your child will partner up with a classmate and have a blast putting real science and engineering concepts to use to build a LEGO® robot. After that, kids can put LEGO® Education’s award-winning WeDo™oftware to use to bring their “bot” to life for a little friendly competition with other teams.
- Math Edge: What our math skills program lacks in repetitive drills it makes up for in fun, interactive activities that help kids think independently and learn how to make math concepts stick. The result? Fun and friendship along with solid problem-solving skills and a lot more confidence.
