Successful engineers aren't just problem solvers: they have creativity and imagination. Sylvan's Engineering courses in West Virginia give budding engineers the chance to build these types of skills — and have a whole lot of fun as they do! We know how kids dismantle toys, gadgets and other devices (and put them back together… hopefully!), so we design our sessions to explore real-world architectural and mechanical challenges. Your child will work with a buddy to build and redesign different structures every week, getting to grips with crucial concepts in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) along the way. After all, kids find it a lot easier to engage with learning if they’re having fun at the same time!
What to Expect at Sylvan
With no more than 12 students in each class and a maximum student-to-teacher ratio of 6:1, you can expect a personal and attentive learning experience at your local Sylvan in West Virginia. To that personal attention we add a mix of collaborative tasks and self-directed activities, helping to motivate and engage kids with a variety of proven learning techniques.

That's why our weekly sessions task students to design and build new and exciting LEGO® machines and K'NEX® structures. And they don't only build them: they also test them, enter them into friendly competitions and redesign them using the new principles they've learned. In other words, we're here to support, engage and excite the young engineer, mechanic or architect in your life — so don't be surprised if bridges, race cars and other projects become the topic of conversation in your home!
