Engineers need strong technical abilities and know-how, as well as creative problem-solving skills and plenty of imagination. Sylvan's Engineering courses in Ohio give budding engineers the chance to build these types of skills — and have a whole lot of fun as they do! We appreciate that kids like to tinker with toys, gadgets and other devices to figure out how they work, so our sessions emphasize real challenges in mechanics and architecture. Every week, students buddy up with friends to build structures, test them, and rebuild them better, learning vital STEM concepts (science, technology, engineering and math) as part of the process. After all, it's so much easier to engage in learning if it happens to be great fun as well!
The Sylvan Experience
With a maximum of 12 students per class — and a student-teacher ratio of 6:1 — learning is a personal experience at your local Sylvan in Ohio. We combine that personal attention with team activities and independent tasks, helping kids stay engaged and motivated with a diverse blend of learning methods.
Let's Get Hands-On
The most effective way to understand critical engineering concepts is to use them to overcome real-life challenges. That's why our weekly sessions task students to design and build new and exciting LEGO® machines and K'NEX® structures. And the building part is only the start: students learn how to test their creations, entering them in friendly contests against competing teams and implementing the new design principles they've mastered. In other words, the future mechanic, architect or engineer in your life is sure to be engaged and excited at Sylvan — just don't be surprised if dinner conversation is dominated by bridges, race cars and other hands-on projects!
