Successful engineers aren't just problem solvers: they have creativity and imagination. Sylvan's Engineering courses in Nebraska give budding engineers the chance to build these types of skills — and have a whole lot of fun as they do! We know how kids dismantle toys, gadgets and other devices (and put them back together… hopefully!), so we design our sessions to explore real-world architectural and mechanical challenges. Every week, students buddy up with friends to build structures, test them, and rebuild them better, learning vital STEM concepts (science, technology, engineering and math) as part of the process. After all, kids find it a lot easier to engage with learning if they’re having fun at the same time!
We're Here to Make a Real Difference
With a maximum of 12 students per class — and a student-teacher ratio of 6:1 — learning is a personal experience at your local Sylvan in Nebraska. We combine that personal attention with team activities and independent tasks, helping kids stay engaged and motivated with a diverse blend of learning methods.
Getting Hands-On with Important Concepts
The most effective way to understand critical engineering concepts is to use them to overcome real-life challenges. That's why our weekly sessions task students to design and build new and exciting LEGO® machines and K'NEX® structures. And once these creations have been built, students test them, enter them in friendly contests and tweak their design to include the new ideas and principles they've learned. In other words, the budding mechanic, engineer or architect in your life will always be fully supported, motivated and engaged at Sylvan — so don't be surprised when your son or daughter can't stop talking about bridges, race cars and other exciting hands-on projects!
