Engineering takes creativity, imagination and great problem-solving abilities. With Sylvan's Engineering courses in Iowa, young engineers have a great opportunity to enhance these skills — and have fun while they do it! We know how kids dismantle toys, gadgets and other devices (and put them back together… hopefully!), so we design our sessions to explore real-world architectural and mechanical challenges. Working with a buddy, your child will build and test new structures every week, mastering 21st century STEM concepts (science, technology, engineering and math) as they go. After all, kids engage in learning a lot more when it happens to be fun and enjoyable too!
The Sylvan Experience
With a maximum student-to-teacher ratio of 6:1 — and no more than 12 students per class — your local Sylvan center in Iowa is where learning gets personal. We also combine that one-on-one attention with collaborative activities and self-guided tasks, helping kids stay engaged with a mix of proven learning methods.▼
Getting Hands-On with Important Concepts
Getting hands-on with real-world engineering challenges is the best way to master the fundamentals. That's why our weekly sessions task students to design and build new and exciting LEGO® machines and K'NEX® structures. And it doesn't end with the building: students discover how to test their creations, redesign them using the principles they've learned, and take part in friendly competitions with classmates' constructions. In other words, the future mechanic, architect or engineer in your life is sure to be engaged and excited at Sylvan — just don't be surprised if dinner conversation is dominated by bridges, race cars and other hands-on projects!
Creative learning starts here! Our Engineering courses in Iowa feature:
- Hands as well as minds: Interactive, app-based learning is great, but this program is all about getting hands-on — and learning by doing.
- Emphasis on STEM: The modern world demands modern skills, so now is the time for your child to develop vital 21st century competencies.
- Teamwork: Students work with buddies, learning how to collaborate and build strong personal communication skills.
- Regular updates: We'll email you after each session with photos, summaries and a sneak peek of next week's project.
