Engineering takes creativity, imagination and great problem-solving abilities. With Sylvan's Engineering courses in California, young engineers have a great opportunity to enhance these skills — and have fun while they do it! We know how kids love to tinker with toys, gadgets and other devices, so we focus our sessions around real mechanical and architectural challenges. Your child will team up with a buddy to build, test and optimize various objects and structures every week, mastering critical 21st century STEM concepts (science, technology, engineering and math) along the way. After all, it's so much easier to engage in learning if it happens to be great fun as well!
The Sylvan Difference
With a maximum of 12 students per class — and a student-teacher ratio of 6:1 — learning is a personal experience at your local Sylvan in California. We combine that personal attention with team activities and independent tasks, helping kids stay engaged and motivated with a diverse blend of learning methods.
Let's Get Hands-On
We think there's no better way to understand engineering concepts and principles than by using them to solve real-life challenges. That's why our students are presented with new and exciting LEGO® and K'NEX® building activities each week. And once these creations have been built, students test them, enter them in friendly contests and tweak their design to include the new ideas and principles they've learned. In other words, you can expect us to guide and engage the aspiring architect, engineer or mechanic in your life — and you can also expect bridges, race cars and other exciting projects to dominate conversations in your home!
It's time to get creative! Our Engineering courses in California feature:

- STEM teaching: As STEM skills become increasingly important in the modern world, now is the time for your child to start developing strong 21st century competencies.
- Teamwork: Buddying up to take on challenges, students learn how to work together and enhance their personal communication skills.
- Weekly updates: We'll email you photos and summaries after each session, as well as a peek at next week's project.
